How do you brew ?

Great coffee doesn't have to be intimidating

Great coffee starts with great beans - check! But there are some other factors that will determine how your cup tastes.

Freshness

You want your coffee to be fresh every step of the way. We took care of the first part for you! Grinding your coffee shortly before brewing and storing whole beans in an airtight container will keep flavors at their peak.

Grind Size

The size of your grind affects the way water flows through your coffee: think rocks vs. sand! Too fine and your coffee might be overextracted (bitter), too coarse and it might be underextracted (sour).

Temperature

Brewing too hot or too cold can drastically change the flavor of your coffee. The sweet spot - truly, where your coffee will taste the best and sweetest - is typically between 195º and 205º.

Ratio

There are only two ingredients in a brew recipe - coffee and water. The ratio of those ingredients can make a big difference, not only to how strong your coffee tastes, but also to the flavors you perceive in the cup.

Water Quality

A cup of coffee is over 98% water and, it turns out, the water you use to brew makes a really big difference. Caring as much about the water as you do about the coffee is key to a great cup. Choose filtered!

There are no right or wrong answers to how you brew your coffee - these are just guide posts. It all depends on your personal preference!
